BMW 5 Series: Adjusting the distance

The system cannot serve as a substitute for the driver's personal judgment. Due to the system limits, braking can be late. There may be a risk of accident or risk of damage to property. Be aware to the traffic situation at all times. Adjust the distance to the traffic and weather conditions and maintain the prescribed safety distance, possibly by braking.

Continuing cruise control
An interrupted cruise control can be continued by calling up the stored speed.
Make sure that the difference between current speed and stored speed is not too large before calling up the stored speed. Otherwise, unintentional braking or accelerating may occur.

Press the button with the system
interrupted.
Cruise control is continued with the stored values.
In the following cases, the stored speed value is deleted and cannot be called up again:
- When the system is switched off.
- When drive-ready state is switched off.
Changing between cruise control with/without distance control
Safety information
Warning
The system does not react to traffic driving ahead of you, but instead maintains the stored speed. There may be a risk of accident or risk of damage to property. Adjust the desired speed to the traffic conditions and brake as needed.
Changing to cruise control without distance control
Distance control can be switched off and on when driving with cruise control activated.

In order to switch back to Cruise control with distance control, press the button again.

The detection capacity of the system and the

Functional principle
Depending on the speed, the system is guided by the lane edges or vehicles
driving ahead.
The position of the lane edges and the vehicle driving ahead is determined with
the help of five radar
sensors and the KAFAS stereo camera.

Using the voice activation
system of the smartphone
A smartphone connected to the vehicle can be
used via voice activation.
Activate voice command response on the smartphone
for this purpose.

steering wheel for approx. 3 seconds.
